I had to plug this because I love my actor-friend, Reggie De Leon, who did the national tour with me in 2000 in the "Selena Forever" musical. Anyhew, he did a skit shown earlier this week on the Late, Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. I always try to support my fellow actors and I laughed extra-hard at this one because it's a spoof of "Hell's Kitchen" - I watched the 1st season anyway. So, just when Patrick was feeling depressed and useless after 9 years of The Sopranos ended recently, we saw the trailer for the new lineup of shows on HBO. It was eerie how we both were not really paying attention and then were both quiet and suddenly drawn into "The Flight of the Conchords" commercial - it didn't give much info, and it's almost indescribable - you just have to watch it. But I will tell you that it is by far one my most favorite shows of all time and one of the wittiest, unique and clever writing and song-writing you will ever see on a TV show. It's about a real-life duo from New Zealand, Bret and Jermaine, who come to NYC to try and be a success with their band, The Flight of the Conchords". It's part musical, part comedy and extremely different! Jermaine - evidently the main song-writer of the 2 - is so monotone and drab, but HILARIOUS - as P said, "The kind of cool guy that you'd like to hang around and have a drink with." Well, he said something to that extent. Bret, the skinny heartthrob is sweet, and the better singer of the two - and the way they play off each other and their chemistry is truly amazing stuff! I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!! 5 stars out of 5!!!
I hate the term but I've been a fa* hag for quite some time. I figure growing up with all those musicals and then getting into theater did it. Heck: I'm open-minded! Well, I was knocked down a rung or two when it took my conservative (if somewhat Metrosexual) boyfriend, Patrick, to introduced me recently to the hit BBC television show, "Absolutely Fabulous".
Known as "The Fab AB" - this show is a RIOT! It mostly consists of the foibles of Eddee and her childhood friend, Patsy, now both about 40. The pair is an absolute fabulous M-E-S-S! Eedee has a teenage daughter (perfectly cast) who is a total nerd, conservative brainiac - much to her super liberal mother's chagrin. Eedie is twice-divorced (the father of her daughter turned out GAY, of course!) Even though Patsy and Eidee are a mess, they are quite successful in, what else, the Fashion industry. So we always get to hear funny commentry on lables and designers. The 2 are also rarely seen NOT guzzling down some alcohol or lighting a fag (cigarette, darling, I mean lighting a cigarette!) They are constantly making trouble for some poor soul and their comedic timing and facial expressions are hilarious!
Well, far be it for me to somehow miss that this show was HUGE within the Gay community. Patrick said that they even used to do viewing parties of it at one of the gay bars in Hillcrest. Shoot. I somehow missed all of that. Maybe it was because I haven't had cable in over 10 years???
I'm always up to support my fellow latina sisters in the entertainment industry - even those who beat me out on TV roles (huh, P? lol!) Check out this young half Mexican - Half Native-American stand-up comedienne. Her name is Anjelah Johnson. I don't know her personally, but she has gorgeous bone-structure, and is great at character role-playing in her recounting getting her nails done. I bet some of you can relate to what she says - I rarely get my nails done, but I've heard these things!!! HAHAHA Enjoy the link
