"Air" spec music video

 

So last Sunday I spent an incredibly hot day at a great abandoned warehouse in Long Beach shooting a spec music video.

 

The casting notice had caught my attention because it was featuring the music of French band, "Air" - whose dreamy music I love. Also, the director had stated it would be shot on 35mm (yes! great quality film!) and shot in the vein of "Amelie" - one of my top 5 favorite films ever.

The shoot was 2 days, although the fantasy sequence with the gals was only shot on Sunday. I love just being on a set studying what every single person has to do to colloborate and make even a small few-minute video happen. It was a very hot, long day - but great, funny people to work with - gracias!

Latina Style: VASZARO designs

About 3 years ago I met and modeled for local Latina designer Vanessa Rosas. You can see previous blog here about that first show. Since then I've modeled again for her as well as bought a one-of-a-kind black gown that I adore and has accompanied me to Vegas and Miami. I was checking out her website and, enjoying always seeing those I know work, I'd like to support her by posting it here for those wanting to check out some of her fantastic, super sexy and flowing designs.

Elsa's Foray into Reality TV- Part 1: "PopStars"

Long, long ago, before there was American Idol, Country Idol, Dances with Stars, So u Think u can Dance and all those numerous song and dance reality shows - there was PopStars . We are talking circa 1999, if I remember correctly.

This show had auditions in LA and NYC for an all-girl group of 5 that would get a recording contract. I, being a singer/model/actress, of course went to the LA auditions. It was exciting. This was the first reality talent show of it's kind - there was no American Idol yet! I made it to the 2nd callbacks before being told I was too old and too tall (I think I was about 28 at the time). I was pretty bummed, but excited that when the TV show aired a couple months later, I got featured 3x on the first episode!! In other words: I may not have been what they were looking for - but my Basque nose and big Mexican hips were deemed camera worthy amongst thousands of auditioners. Gay snap to that!!!


Sure enough, though, I remember Nicole Herzinger (now Nicole Kea) was there and she was eventually selected to be in the group. Not unlike the Pussycat Dolls (which she now sings in): she was featured (not intentionally; she was, simply, the best of the 5) prominently as the lead singer in what was supposed to be an ensemble group. (Can we say Beyonce??) And yes, some of the girls in the group experienced green envy as no doubt the less-pretty, talent-less backup dancers (they don’t even sing really) Dolls feel now.


All I can say is GO, Nicole! Work it out! I gotta find that first episode tape with me on it and you know when I do, I'll put it on youtube and on here!

80s Song of the Week #1 - Duran Duran "Rio"

ok ok. I am in my mid 30s as you all should well know by now. I also love my 80s music (especially New Wave) from back then. I decided this New Year for my blog that I'd treat myself and maybe even some of you to a different 80s video each week. Perhaps it will take some of you down memory lane or open you young ones to a genre that coincided with MTV's birth. These videos are colorful, strange, loud, and each one UNIQUE.
Of course, I could not help but start off with my beloved Duran Duran and their hit, "RIO". Note the tanned bodies, big hair, European playboy attitude, use of dyes, paint and bright colors and the Brazilian model's tilted back laughing open smile at the beginning (which I realized upon posting this that I have stolen as one my signature poses - as many of my images with that exact laughing smile have been in ads everywhere....)

What DIDN'T happen in Vegas, Stays in Vegas

DISCLAIMER - While I am enjoying my weekend and getting my creative juices flowing I am posting an old blog story I guest-blogged on teawithlemon blog back in 2005. I know, I know: shame on me! But I promise there will be more recent elsa-goodies later! :)

For those of you working conventional jobs this might be of some amusement. I work several different jobs: as many artsy people do. This one was definitely different and I booked it through my friend, Stefanie's agency. In May 2005 after a very difficult interview and poloraid taken at a downtown club (hehehe) I was invited to fly out with 27 other San Diegan beauties (well, party girls anyway) by the LightGroup - an organization of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.

Even at the audition I never really understood why we were being chosen to go to a free trip to Vegas and I must admit our agency owner never really made it clear herself. That said: it was a free trip there and Stefanie, Rachel and Brigetta were not going to let my goody goody status (I don't even LIKE Vegas) stop me from joining them on a night out.

We were all given free airline ticket, luxurious rooms, VIP treatment, dinner and paraded in the dinner club Fix, Carmel Bar Lounge and Light Club - all in the Bellagio Hotel. We were informed this was for 'networking' with execs and VIPS of the hotel... yeah, right. I suppose the 21 year old Charger girls with us believed that one. We were more like high class prostitutes – corralled into waiting bins like sheep, plied with judgment-debilitating liquor (I stopped at 1.5 mojitos and faked along with recently pregnant Rachel a vodka tonic for the rest of the night with tonic water and lime).

We were literally handpicked by some older (undoubtedly married) rich men who would stare at us and tell our ‘handlers’ (or pimps) which one of us was to be taken to their table for chit-chat and drinks. Stefanie was highly regarded by a trainer of the Pistons and I was dazzling in my Vanessa Rosas designer gown so I was chosen as well (what can I say - most of the girls were 10 years younger than us - how good could their conversing skills be with married, rich men??). Fortunately, Stef and I have much experience working parties and events and know the fine line of doing our job: feeding egos and making pleasant conversation without compromising our morals. It was a whirlwind trip (literally less than 24 hours in Vegas) and I am still not sure it was worth it. I didn't get a single 'networking' gig out of it - but the pineapple mojitos were simply FABULOUS!!
